This AGM saw a change in key positions on the main committee, and the new guard will certainly be building on the great work done by the outgoing President Ms Lam Lian Suan, who stepped down after four years. The new President is Ms Loh Ju Fern, and Ms Joyce Lam replaces Ms Loh as the new Honorary Treasurer. Both the positions were not contested. Uncontested too and thus retaining their posts on the EXCO are Ms Marvane E, Vice-President and Ms Gillian Sim, Honorary Secretary.

The meeting was called to order, and before proceeding with the agenda, Ms Gillian Sim requested the 41 attendees representing the 14 Associated Clubs to observe a minute of silence as a mark of respect for Ms Winifred Lim who passed away on a week before our AGM. Ms Lim was President of SLGA from 1999 to 2006.

In her speech summing up the previous year’s activities, Ms Lam noted that much was achieved and singled out the successful hosting of the 34th Queen Sirikit Cup held in the Republic from 25th to 27th April 2013. The success of this premier Asean Amateur Golf championship was lauded by both the media and the respective governing associations for ladies golf in the 13 nations that participated. She said it was a testimony to the teamwork of all members of the SLGA and, indeed, the many lady golfers who volunteered their time and expertise to make the event an unqualified success.

Other highlights of the year mentioned in Ms Lam’s address were the SLGA Champion of Champions held at Ria Bintan that had a record number of participants, and the 4th Interport in Pattaya Thailand in October that saw the Team Singapore winning the event for the first time. The launch of the refreshed SLGA website was mentioned and Ms Lam urged members to visit the site and to contribute to keeping it vibrant and populated with news and happenings of their respective Clubs’ events.

A change in one of the key events in the SLGA calendar is the Association’s annual League noted Ms Lam is that the first time the 2013 league is being held together with the SGA’s league. (Gill maybe you want to say what is the key impact of this)

The tone of the AGM was cordial and the camaraderie among attendees was evident. When Ms Sim brought the meeting to a close after the election of the new office bearers for year 2013/2014, all the ladies adjourned to the xxx restaurant and where a truly sumptuous buffet was awaiting.

In response to what will some of the areas that the new committee would be focusing on, Ms Loh said, “ The new committee will spend more time focusing on having more activities for the Ladies in the upcoming year.”
