Queen Sirikit Cup Report 2016
The 38th edition of the Queen Sirikit Cup, also known as the Amateur Ladies Asia-Pacific Invitational Golf Team Championship was held at the Ora Country Club in Jeju Korea from 26th to 28th April 2016.
Team captain Goh Kui Hwa led the Singapore team of Tan Amanda, Jacqueline Young and Ashley Loh to this very prestigious amateur team event. The team was accompanied by SLGA President Lyn Sen and SGA national coach Andrew Welsford.
This tournament is of special significance to the SLGA as our association was one of its founding members in 1979. The Queen Sirikit Cup tournament has since merged with the Asia Pacific Golf Confederation in 2015 to expand the championship to other confederation countries. In view of this, the SLGA, together with TALGA, MALGA & WGAP has been accorded full membership in the APGC with voting rights upon payment of an annual subscription fee of US$500.00. In addition, two seats on the APGC executive committee will be given to female members of the QSC. We are proud to announce that the SLGA is officially a member of the APGC.
The tournament commenced on 26th April after a rousing welcome at the opening ceremony.
Playing in testing conditions during the three day tournament in Jeju, our young team did well to finish in 12th place out of 14 teams with a score of 455.
Tan Amanda closed the tournament with a splendid 69 in the final round. This propelled her to a very commendable top 10 finish in the individual standings with a score of 219. Jacqueline Young (236) and Ashley Loh (245) finished in T34 and 41st positions respectively.
Team Korea won the Team championship with a commanding total of 410 and also swept the individual honours while Teams Australia and Philippines shared 2nd place on 433.
The Queen Sirikit Cup ranks amongst the top amateur team tournaments in the world, having produced several World Ranked #1 LPGA stars over the years. The SLGA is very proud to be part of its rich history and we look forward to the 2017 edition in Shanghai, China.
